I devise and deliver creative consultations as ways of providing information on, and collecting data and opinions on a specific subject. Creative consultations can be much more engaging and more effective than the use of traditional consultation methods such as questionnaires and open meetings as they are less intimidating, more enjoyable to participate in and accessible to all. See below for examples of recent projects.

Bradford LINk Health & Social Care Consultation 2008:

I was commissioned by Artworks to work with another artist, Amy Hield, to develop a consultation activity for the launch of Bradford LINk. We produced a physical mindmap of Bradford that was representative of the district. The map travelled to a variety of venues across Bradford, where the launch events were taking place. Participants were given flags on which to write issues around health and social care that concern them, and these flags were colour coded to indicate the individual's level of commitment to campaigning. Participants were then encouraged to add to the map by decorating blank models to represent key community organisations and people that represent their own issues eg. their local surgery. At the end of the process, Bradford LINk was able to identify common themes and group issues together to assess support for potential campaigns, thus using the material to develop campaign priorities.

Holmewood Natural Playspace Consultation 2008:

I was commissioned by Artworks together with another artist to devise and facilitate consultation and design workshops around the development of a natural playspace in Holmewood in Bradford. We worked with the reception class and year 3 at a local school as well as at a youth group. The sessions consisted of exploring participants' relationship with the outdoors and the valley site as it exists; discussing ways to improve the site; exploring natural play and use of space (a parkour practitioner was also commissioned to work on the project); and developing skills in imaginative play through storytelling and role play activities. The children and young people involved had clear ideas of what would work well and be engaging for the site, all of which were communicated to Bradford Parks & Landscapes who are now in the process of developing the playspace.
